ERB here, bringing you heartfelt yuletide wishes and good cheer! This third most popular Christmas song was written in 1943 by Ralph Blane and Hugh Martin. It was first introduced to us in the 1944 musical film Meet Me In St. Louis, where Judy Garland sings to her little sister to cheer her up on Christmas Eve. The song was originally written with a melancholy tone, but in 1957, the lyrics were revised to suit Frank Sinatra’s newest rendition, with more of a “jolly” feel to it.
In ERB’s cover of this holiday classic, you will notice a touch of fifties doo-wop and a brief nod to those who have served and protected our country. This version is one in a series of songs for the video album, A Very Eclectic Christmas featuring Dean Olson and Jim Romero.
This track is taken from An Eclectic Christmas Album recorded in 1999. We only got around to making videos twelve years later. Oh, well. HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS!
