If you have in your collection any of the first eight original Steely Dan albums, you will definitely know who Gary Katz is. His handiwork is evident in those recordings, as it is with Donald Fagen’s debut solo effort The Nightfly! He continues to produce music today through his own company. Yes, the man is a legend in the record business, but in the interview, I learned that he has humble and balanced view of his status in life. Gary, throughout his career spanning more than 40 years, simply went into work each day to “make good records.” The list of other artists he has produced includes Diana Ross, 10cc, Tupac Shakur, Laura Nyro, Eye To Eye, Love and Money, and Joe Cocker.
